Origin:
Probably a very old mutation of Pinot noir.
Synonyms:
Blanc de Champagne, Pinot Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Weißer Burgunder, Weißburgunder
Requirements to the vineyard site:
They could be called medium, a bit lower than Pinot noir and Pinot gris.
Spread:
In Germany it is planted in every wine growing region, but most in Baden, Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Nahe and the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer.
There are also big plantings in France, where it could be found in many Champagne Cuvees. And of course in Burgundy where it is used in most of the Appellations.
Clones:
The differences between the clones are far not that big as for example with Pinot noir. For the moment the big aims of the clonal selection are to get loose bunched clones with small or mixed size berries.
Pinot noir is often a very productive variety, so some selections are also made to reduce the yield.
This clone and D 209 are the so called "Standard clones" which are planted in most cases. It has a good procutivity. The berries will start getting yellow when they are ripe
This clone is very similar to FR 70. But it is the more greenish typ. This means the berries will stay longer green, even when the are ripe. But the sugar content is more or less the same as FR 70.
This clone is in our clonal trials similar to clone FR 70. In long term evaluations of the Selector (Weinbauinstitut Freiburg) it has a slightly higher sugar content with minimal loss of productivity.

Der 90 Gm ist ein Klon aus Geisenheim, welcher in Baden mit dem Selektionsziel Lockerbeerigkeit ausgelesen wurde. Eine leichte Neigung zu lockereren Trauben ist deshalb vor allem bei starkwüchsigen Unterlagen erkennbar.

Der N 81 ist ein schon älterer Klon der ehemaligen Landeslehranstalt in Neustadt / Pfalz (heute DLR Rheinpfalz). Er erlebt im Moment eine gewisse Renaissance, da er teilweise als etwas lockerbeerig beschrieben wird.

Dies ist ein noch sehr neuer Klon des Weinbauinstitutes in Freiburg. Lockerbeerigkeit gepaart mit guter Weinqualität war auch hier das Zuchtziel. Leider gibt es jedoch im Moment noch sehr wenig Pflanzmaterial.
